Safe passage
On 22nd July 2012 the Olympic torch arrived at Erith Yacht Club by boat. It continued its onward journey through a local industrial estate, an overlooked no man’s land between the river and the town centre. Here, a series of artworks were installed that bridged the gap in the landscape to form relationships between the yacht club and the local community.   On water, channel markers indicate a reliable route, guiding vessels along a safe passage. On Manor Road, channel markers have been installed as symbols to guide the Olympic torch safely along its onward journey. They simultaneously act as a visual guide to lead visitors and the local community towards the yacht club, encouraging greater participation.
